The Scuba area around Losinj is not really a good place for scuba beginners
- but if you are a little experienced you will find a lot of new, untouched
and great scuba spots: * more than 20 reefs, * 3 wrecks * 4 big caves
(all levels: easy -dangerous). The most spots have been discovered by
Zivko himself. The other diving centers don`t know the most of our spots.
Last not least : You can get your scuba diving permission in our ofice.
So you need not go to the officials. Some spots:
The
island of "Susak" Near by "Susak" there are a couple of reefs whit a drop-off down to 45 meters (150 feet). Only few divers can come to "Susak" because only Zivko goes there. Here you can still find Congers, Lobsters, Octopusses and a lot of very nice corals (Gorgonies). "Susak" is "the last Croatic land in front of Italy". The island is 5 miles in the open sea - probably you`l see a big Tuna or something like this !
Cave"The
big one"... is very good cave for beginners ! It is big (diameter about 8 meters (26 feet)) and the entrance is at 7 meters (22 feet). There is no sediment in this cave and it has a "window" through which the sun is shining all the day. BUT: At the end of the big cave there is a little hole through which you can reach a further cave.This further cave is very dangerous due to the fact, that there is fine sediment in it and the "pipe" is very narrow.
The
wreck "Tihany"On February 12, 1917 the "Tihany" sank near the island of Unije (NO deads). Today she lays in 30 meters (100 feet) on her right side beside a reef. It is very easy to dive inside this 60 meter (200 feet) long wreck.
Wreck
"Amsterdam" The "Amsterdam" is a wreck for experienced divers only due to the fact that she lays down at 45 meters (about 150 feet). In the end of your dive you have to swim about 100 meters (about 330 feet) to an island. Only here our "Dondo" can rest by anchor.
In
ancient times,because of thousand islands,the east coast of Adriatic sea
was the navigation way. Many ships dissappeared of the storm or were attacked
by pirates. Some of them sunk in the near of island Losinj. In the April
1999,during their diving,two Belgian divers have found the bronze statue
on 46 meters of depth.It is the statue with the wall bot of 6-8 mm,190 cm
high and representes the Apoxyomenos -athlete who is cleaning himselfs after
the competition.The autor is probably the greek sculptor Lysippos.The estimated
oldness is about 2400 years. Against the experts,the statue is in good state,but
needs some restauration.
